We are a small charity with a big vision.
We want to remove the barriers that limit disabled islanders and inspire changes that create a more inclusive community – one where diversity is celebrated and everyone can contribute their unique skills and gifts.
We believe that it is the attitudes and structure of our society that makes someone disabled and not their physical or mental situation. If life is set up in a way that is accessible for people with disabilities then they can be independent with choice and control over their own lives – and everyone benefits.
Disability matters affect us all.
Did You Know?
In Jersey, almost one person in every seven is living with a disability.
More than a quarter say they have experienced discrimination in the last 12 months.
More than a quarter say they have experienced a lot of difficulty getting the type and amount of paid work they want.
20% say they have experienced a lot of difficulty in taking part in community activities.
10% say they have experienced a lot of difficulty accessing healthcare.
10% say they experience a lot of difficulty travelling around Jersey.
We think this needs to change.
Our services help people with disabilities, their families, carers and professionals in Jersey.
Advice & Help
Providing advice and guidance is at the heart of what we do. We’re happy to speak with anyone to ensure they get the help they need.
Our community car and minibuses are available for use by Jersey residents, visitors and organisations.
Our social calendar is always busy and provides opportunities to get together and maybe even experience something new!
There is an amazing range of activities available in Jersey and we believe that these should be accessible to all.
We want people who have a disability to lead a life without limits.
Below is some of the recent work that we hope will bring us closer to achieving that aim.
Healing WavesWe are proud to have supported Healing Waves, who offer ocean therapy through guided surf, paddle and flow sessions, by providing funding towards a specially adapted surfboard in late 2017.
The surfboard enables islanders with a disability, both neurological and physical, to enjoy surfing and experience the healing benefits of being in the water.
Accessible Activity TrainingLast year we ran a series of free training courses for outdoor activity providers in Jersey.
Our attendees are helping to create an Island that is accessible to all and obtained a deeper understanding of disability matters and confidence to encourage more people with disabilities to participate in outdoor adventure.
How you can help us
There are a number of ways that you can help to make Jersey a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else.
Life Without Limits Funding
We’re on a mission to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled people in Jersey. One way we achieve this is by providing funding to disabled islanders and organisations that work to improve wellbeing, mobility and access to the community.
In the last two years, we have given more than £40,000 directly to individuals and to initiatives that have benefited the island.
